What is the Deceptive Trade Practices Act (DTPA)?

The DTPA is a powerful law that protects you from fraud, false advertising and deceptive sales tactics.

What Does the DTPA Cover?

Buying a car or getting repairs shouldn't feel like a gamble, unfortunately, some dealerships and repair shops take advantage of consumers. In the auto industry, these kinds of violations happen more often than you think. If a seller or a repair shop has misled you, you may have a cause under the DTPA.

A seller might hide flood or accident damage from a buyer or roll back the odometer to make the car seem like it has fewer miles. Some shops charge for repairs that weren't actually done or pressure you into services you don't need. In some cases, dealerships advertise one price only to switch it out for something higher once you’re ready to sign.

Do I Need to File a Suit Before a Certain Deadline?

Yes, DTPA claims have a two year statute of limitations from when you discover, or should have reasonably discovered the deception, so don't wait too long to act.
